One of the major anchor buildings of Springfield’s core block – the former Edison Building was built in 1979. It was designed by the world famous Chicago architects firm Skidmore, Owens and Merrill. Acquired in 2005, it was upgraded and renovated by Tectonic. Renamed Commerce Pointe, it’s now the new home of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the Neighborhood Housing Partnership of Greater Springfield, and other tenants. The 69,000 SF, Class A office building was originally the headquarters of Springfield Merchants and Mechanics Savings and Loan.

Contemporary by any standard, Commerce Pointe delivers both functionality and streamlined architectural detailing. Tectonics’ refined interior design revision only adds to the aesthetic stature of the downtown commercial icon. It is now the new home to Greater Springfield Clark County Chamber of Commerce.

“We were challenged to design the Chamber’s new headquarters and excited about the opportunity to make a very positive community statement – this was a great opportunity to support the positive things that were happening in the community. We are dedicated to delivering high quality construction services – this was one of those projects where the rubber meets the road. These offices needed to reflect the spirit of what is happening here, the community’s vision, and the high quality standards that is associated with the work the Chamber of Commerce,” recalls Chris Simonton, president of Tectonic.

“This building presents the kind of image the Chamber wants to project. Not only is it attractive but also it is extremely functional. We have had large gatherings in the central atrium area and our Security National Bank Board Room makes for the perfect setting for meetings.” stated Chamber President, Mike McDorman.

Extraordinary by its clean exterior appearance, the interior is quite the same – exceptional, Commerce Pointe delivers style big-time with amenities only associated with the most prestigious, Class-A commercial real estate property on the market. “The build out requirements of the Chamber were most exacting – we added some architectural detailing and technical capabilities to the infrastructure, but other than that we simply incorporated their specifications within the new design. We delivered an exceptional place for the professional community to conduct its business,” said Simonton.

Among the many architectural details, the space provides an abundance of natural light via a three-story atrium in the center of the building. Skylights deliver an open, bright and airy feel to the interior. One is immediately struck by the clean, contemporary feeling of the glass-enclosed offices and simple finishes that provide the perfect combination of warmth and modern elegance suggested by the monochromatic finishes and understated details.
